For over 30 years, one constant in EIC’s timeline has been its commitment to enlightening audiences of film and television with information about health and social issues. Studies indicate that more Americans get their information about health-related concerns from the media, including TV and movies, than from their own family doctors.
EIC encourages the creators of entertainment media to depict drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction accurately, and provides fact sheets and specially tailored depiction suggestions to further the incorporation of this important information into the creative development of original entertainment. EIC also produces the PRISM Awards News Corporation and flagship airing partner FX Network, to recognize and encourage those in the entertainment industry who create compelling and accurate productions addressing substance abuse and addiction, treatment and recovery as well as mental health challenges.
The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) annually presents the PRISM Awards for outstanding accomplishments in the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction, and mental health challenges in film, television, interactive, comic books, music, and video entertainment.
PRISM Award winners are selected through a submission and review process by members of the creative community and content experts. They are selected for their entertainment value, accessibility of their message, and scientific accuracy. The production in each category that best exemplifies these three objectives is presented with an award.
