Publications

EIC communicates regularly with the entertainment industry by way of publications, ranging from simple updates featuring the names and faces of people who are making a difference in the entertainment world to topical health information with suggestions for onscreen depictions.

Picture This: A Local Approach to Mental Health
The Picture This: Local Approach publications are from the Picture This events which we have had in select cities nationwide. The publications and events are a result of EIC's Entertainment and Media Communication Institute's Mental Healthcare: Media Blueprint Think Tank where a vision was set forth, "to increase the nation's mental health and decrease the burden of mental illness." It was at this event, EIC vowed to work with members of Congress to communicate about mental health issues directly within local communities.

EIC's Think Tank occurred in the Nation's Capitol with collaboration from the Congressional Mental Health Co-Chairs Rep. Grace Napolitano and Rep. Tim Murphy as well as Congressional Entertainment Caucus Chair Rep. Diane Watson. Please take a look at the publications from each city for insight into media approaches that address similarities and differences in each city.

Picture This Publications
A Picture This publication is a guide to the key issues within the realm of specific health and social issues affecting various populations today, as identified by experts, advocates, policy makers, and others working to improve public awareness about and reduce stigma through understanding these important issues. EIC's Picture This program creates the opportunity for members of the health and social fields to condense and contextualize the key issues in their areas of expertise. The program channels the experts information and transports it to the entertainment industry in an effort to inspire stories that could lead to social change. Extra special thanks to the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) for hosting EIC's Picture This meetings in Washington, D.C., and to our issue-specific partners and especially to the writers and producers who have taken time out of their busy schedules to come to Washington and enlighten everyone in the room about how their jobs are done, and what opportunities and challenges present themselves when addressing health and social issues in their productions. Are you a writer, producer, director, talent, or a member of the creative community? Would you be interested in participating as a panelist for our Picture This meetings? Check out the First Draft section of EIC's website to get involved! With your participation, you will engage in a vibrant and diverse dialogue with experts-in-the-field and gain information on issues that could make for powerful, entertaining depictions in your storyline. Topic areas covered in our Picture This meetings are affecting YOUR audiences today.
