May 10, 2002 | PENELOPE CRUZ was out without TOM CRUISE last night. She was at the Prism Awards in Los Angeles to present an award posthumously to her 'Blow' director, TED DEMME. The annual honors are bestowed for accurate portrayals of drug and alcohol use in TV and film. Demme died four months ago after suffering a heart attack during a charity basketball game in Santa Monica, CA. He was 38. Later, toxicology reports showed a small amount of cocaine in his system, which the L.A. Coroner said could have been a factor in his death. 'Blow,' which stars Cruz and JOHNNY DEPP, is about the devastating effects drugs can have on a life.
